Police Commission

Nine Hawaiʻi Island residents serve on the Hawaiʻi County Police Commission. The mayor appoints one member from each council district subject to confirmation by the Hawaiʻi County Council.

The Police Commission appoints the chief of police, reviews the police department’s budget, advises the chief on police-community relations, and considers and investigates charges of misconduct by the Police Department or its members.

Members of the public may file a complaint using a Police Commission Complaint Form, a Police Department Complaint Form, or both. The form may be downloaded at:
