MEDIA RELEASE

Police are warning residents about counterfeit $20 bills currently being circulated in Kona.

The counterfeit $20 bills can be distinguished from the legal bills because:

  • They are slightly smaller.
  • They have no watermarks or magnetic metal strip inside.
  • They feel different to the touch.

Police said many of the counterfeit bills have the serial numbers BG8244258A or AL27265543J on them.

Police also said that anyone with information about the counterfeit scheme or anyone who receives a counterfeit $20 bill should call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311 or the Kona police station at 326-4646.
