MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police turned over custody Monday (July 1, 2002) of a 46-year-old female suspect to federal law enforcement officials.

The suspect, Lenora Aitcheson, of a Mountain View, Puna, address, had been held in the Hilo police cellblock since her arrest Friday for illegal cultivation of marijuana.

Aitcheson was arrested after Hilo Vice Section officers found 911 marijuana plants growing on her property and inside her house.

The suspect was arrested during the police department’s five-day marijuana eradication operation, which ended Friday.

She was turned over to U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency officers about 6 a.m. Monday.

Aitcheson faces federal prosecution for violating federal drug laws.
