Media Release

Deputy Chief Harry S. Kubojiri has named Assistant Chief Paul Ferreira to be his own deputy chief when Kubojiri is sworn in as chief in January.

Under the County Charter, the chief appoints the deputy chief subject to confirmation by the Police Commission. The Police Commission is meeting on Tuesday, December 30, to vote on the confirmation.

Ferreira joined the Hawaii Police Department in July 1982. During his career he worked as a patrol officer and a detective and held several positions in the Administrative Bureau. He has been assistant chief in the Administrative Bureau since 2007.

Chief Lawrence K. Mahuna retires on December 31.
