MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives have arrested a second suspect for attempted murder in a stabbing that occurred August 31, 2001, at Wailoa State Park in Hilo.

At 4:43 p.m. Monday (September 24, 2001), Hilo CIS detectives arrested Joseph Ramones, 19, of a Pohaku Place address in Keaau, Puna, for attempted murder. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation.

Responding to the stabbing on August 31, police arrived at the park’s large pavilion area and found the victim, a 19-year-old Hilo male, with stab wounds to his back. Officers summoned fire rescue personnel, who took the victim to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment of his wounds.

At the time of the stabbing, officers arrested the first suspect, Ronald Paz, 39, of a Hawaiian Paradise Park address, also for attempted murder.

An investigation determined that several fights had been taking place in the park at the time the victim was stabbed.
