Hilo police are reminding Big Island residents to keep a close watch on their purses and wallets while shopping.

Police issued the reminder after receiving several complaints of purses and wallets being stolen from unattended shopping carts at major supermarkets and discount stores in Hilo.

The thefts have been reported over the past several months.

Shoppers are advised not to leave their purses and wallets unattended in shopping carts. Instead, they are advised to keep these items on their persons while shopping.
