MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii County Police Department is conducting a criminal and internal investigation of two Kona drivers license examiners who allegedly misused their positions.

The investigations were started after an audit found discrepances in the issuance of drivers licenses. The audit was made after a Kona police officer learned that licenses were allegedly being issued without following proper procedures.

No arrests have been made in the case, and the two employees under investigation have been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigations.

Following the standard policy concerning ongoing investigations, police had no further comment.
