During the week of January 13-19, 2003, Big Island police arrested six motorists for drunk driving.Two of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents, and one was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 25 DUI arrests, compared to 37 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3 percent.

There have been 113 major accidents so far this year, compared to 100 during the same period last year, an increase of 13 percent.

There have been two traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to one during the same period last year, and increase of 100 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
