During the week of February 24-March 2, 2003, Big Island police arrested 12 motorists for drunk driving.
So far this year, there have been 113 DUI arrests, compared to 142 during the same period last year, a decrease of 20 percent.
There have been 374 major accidents so far this year, compared to 364 during the same period last year, an increase of 3 percent.
There have been two traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to seven during the same period last year, a decrease of 71 percent. There have been no fatalities attributed to drunk driving so far this year, compared to two DUI-related fatalities at this time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
