During the week of April 18-24, 2005, Big Island police arrested 14 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 234 DUI arrests, compared to 312 during the same period last year, a decrease of 25 percent. The number of arrests by district were:

There have been 543 major accidents so far this year, compared to 765 during the same period last year, a decrease of 29 percent.
There have been 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 17 for the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent. There has been one alcohol-related fatality so far this year, compared to five at this time last year, a decrease of 80 percent. There have been no drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to six at the same time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
