During the week of November 6, 2007, through November 12, 2007, Big Island police arrested 42 motorists for drunk driving. Fifteen of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,170 DUI arrests compared with 1,085 during the same period last year, an increase of 8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,828 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,142 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.

So far this year, there have been 35 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 30 during the same period last year, an increase of 17 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
