MEDIA RELEASE

During the week of March 20, 2007 – March 26, 2007, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

There have been 310 DUI arrests so far this year compared with 261 at this time last year, an increase of 19 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 520 major accidents so far this year compared with 620 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent.

There have been 10 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with nine during the same period last year, an increase of 11 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
