During the week of April 10, 2007 – April 16, 2007, Big Island police arrested 33 motorists for drunk driving. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Six were under the age of 21.

There have been 389 DUI arrests so far this year compared with 333 at this time last year, an increase of 17 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 633 major accidents so far this year compared with 757 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent.

There have been 12 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with 12 during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
