During the week of April 15, 2008, through April 21, 2008, Big Island police arrested 26 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 424 DUI arrests compared with 398 during the same period last year, an increase of 7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 571 major accidents so far this year compared with 671 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.
So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 12 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
