MEDIA RELEASE

During the week of April 17, 2007 – April 23, 2007, Big Island police arrested 16 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

There have been 405 DUI arrests so far this year compared with 350 at this time last year, an increase of 16 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 680 major accidents so far this year compared with 808 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent.

There have been 12 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with 12 during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
