DUI stats 05-30-06

During the week of May 23-May 29, 2006, Big Island police arrested 49 motorists for drunk driving. Thirteen of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and five were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been a total of 483 DUI arrests, compared with a revised total of 387 during the same period last year, an increase of 25 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 1,048 major accidents so far this year, compared with a revised total of 985 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent.

There has been a total of 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared with 15 for the same period last year, a decrease of 7 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
