During the week of June 15, 2015, through June 21, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 12 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 476 DUI arrests compared with 601 during the same period last year, a decrease of 20.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 700 major accidents so far this year compared with 749 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.5 percent.
So far this year, there have been 12 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven during the same period last year, an increase of 71.4 percent.
To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (2), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
