During the week of July 8, 2013, through July 14, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 13 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 659 DUI arrests compared with 742 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 728 major accidents so far this year compared with 793 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.2 percent.
So far this year, there were 19 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 18 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.6 percent.
To date, four fatalities were related to drugs only (1), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (2).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
