DUI stats 08-08-06

During the week of August 1-August 7, 2006, Big Island police arrested 31 motorists for drunk driving. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and six were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been a total of 717 DUI arrests, compared with a revised total of 594 during the same period last year, an increase of 21 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 1,519 major accidents so far this year, compared with a total of 1,435 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent.

There has been a total of 20 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared with 20 for the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
