During the week of October 21, 2013, through October 27, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 1,069 DUI arrests compared with 1,200 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,105 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,213 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.9 percent.
So far this year, there were 23 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 35 during the same period last year, a decrease of 34.3 percent.
To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
