During the week of November 4, 2013, through November 10, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 34 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,135 DUI arrests compared with 1,265 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,152 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,267 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.1 percent.
So far this year, there were 23 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 36 during the same period last year, a decrease of 36.1 percent.
To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
