During the week of December 22, 2014, through December 28, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 1,152 DUI arrests compared with 1,363 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,513 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,327 during the same period last year, an increase of 14 percent.

So far this year, there were 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 25 fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 56 percent.

To date, six fatalities related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
