MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Big Island police have called off the search for a 24-year-old inmate who escaped from the Hale Nani Correctional Facility in Hilo earlier this month.

The escapee, identified as Davi F. Alvarez, turned himself in over the weekend.

Alvarez had been reported missing during a 10:18 a.m. check at the facility on July 8, 2003.
