Hawaiʻi Island police and firefighters are investigating a fatal fire in Hilo early Thursday (August 15).

The structure fire at a home on Wainaku Avenue was reported at 1:08 a.m.

Responding patrol officers and firefighters found the house fully engulfed in flames. After firefighters extinguished the fire, two bodies were discovered in the rubble.

The identities of the victims and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.

Autopsies have been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
