Hilo police are looking for a man who attempted to sexually assault a female Japanese tourist Wednesday (January 17, 2001).

Investigating detectives learned that about 10 or 11 a.m., the woman caught a ride with a man at the Hilo post office across from Kalakaua Park. The woman managed to escape and report the incident to police.

The woman described the suspect as being a Caucasian male, being about 30 to 40 years old, being 5-feet-4 in height with a slim build and having short brown hair and a tan complexion. She said the man spoke with a foreign accent.
