Hamakua police arrested and charged a Waipio Valley man Thursday (April 15, 1999) after he allegedly threatened a Florida tourist with a firearm.

Responding to a 1:53 p.m. report of a domestic dispute, officers arrested and charged Mario Flores Trigueros, 21, with having an illegal place to keep a firearm, terroristic threatening and abuse of a household or family member. Trigueros is being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Officers retrieved a 12-gauge from the scene of the incident.

Investigators learned that a tourist from Miami, Florida, was walking into Waipio Valley when he saw a man arguing with his girlfriend. As the visitor was watching, the suspect looked up and saw him, pulled a gun out of the back of a pickup truck and threatened him.

After being threatened, the witness immediately left the valley and drove with his family to the Honokaa police station to report the incident.
