Media Release

Due to popular demand, the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League, HI-PAL, will be expanding the age group of participants in this year’s 30th Winter Basketball Classic by including a six-age group division and Girls 10 & Under Division. These divisions will be part of the five other age-group divisions (Boys 9-10; Boys 11-12; Boys 13-14; Girls 12 & Under; Girls 14 & Under), and possibly included in future Winter Basketball Classics.

Additionally, the HI-PAL Program would like to clarify some misinformation regarding aspects of this year’s Winter Basketball Classic. All games are played in a “first half-second half” fashion and not in a “first quarter, second quarter, third quarter, fourth quarter fashion.” Game time, as indicated on the rules information sheet, will not be running time. It will be traditional “clock stoppage for time outs, out of bounds plays, fouls shots, technical fouls, halftime, injuries, etc.”

If anyone has any questions regarding this year’s Winter Basketball Classic, please call Officer Joseph Botelho, Jr., East Hawaii HI-PAL Coordinator, at 961-2220.
