Big Island police are investigating a reported assault Wednesday night (August 4) in Hilo.

Responding to a 6:22 p.m. report of a man bleeding from the hand area on Keawe Street, South Hilo Patrol officers were initially unable to locate the victim but later found him at a home on Wainaku Street.

The 21-year-old victim reported that while he was at Kalākaua Park, unknown men attacked him and one struck him in the arm with a machete. The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released for his injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
