Hilo Vice Section officers arrested 17 persons Friday evening (July 9, 1999) for a variety of drug offenses in raids on two Hilo business establishments.

Executing two warrants at 9:50 p.m., officers simultaneously raided Butch’s Auto Repair and the Tint Shop on Keaa Street in Hilo.

At the Tint Shop, police recovered two grams of crystal methamphetamine and four grams of cocaine, along with numerous items of drug paraphernalia, prescription pills and one gram of marijuana seeds. They arrested four males for various drug offenses.

At Butch’s Auto Repair, police seized about one gram of crack cocaine, 71 grams of liquid methamphetamine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia. They arrested four males and four females for numerous drug offenses.

While conducting their investigation at the auto shop, police arrested five males who approached them wanting to buy crack cocaine. Of the five, three were arrested for attempted promotion of a dangerous drug and two were arrested for conspiracy to promote a dangerous drug.

All the suspects have been released pending laboratory analyses of the seized drugs.
