Media Release

On Thursday (January 1) at approximately 2 a.m., South Hilo police officers responded to a house fire on Halaulani Place.

Upon arrival, the home was observed engulfed in flames. It was reported to be a five-story structure and its estimated value was one million dollars. All tenants were accounted for and no injuries were reported.

The fire destroyed the entire home and also burned two vehicles parked in the carport. No damages were reported to surrounding homes.

Fire investigators were unable to immediately determine the cause of the blaze.

Police ask anyone with information about the fire to call Officer Victor McLellan at 961-2213. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
