A 27-year-old Hilo man was arrested Tuesday evening (March 28, 2000) on a variety of offenses for allegedly assaulting and abducting a female juvenile.
Responding police officers determined that the Mountain View, Puna, girl was fishing in waters off Hilo’s Keaukaha area when she was approached by an unknown male.
The suspect punched her, took her to his car and threw her in the trunk. The suspect then drove the victim to the Panaewa area, and when he let the girl out of the trunk, he discovered the she was not the person he had thought she was.
Police arrested the suspect at 6:01 p.m. He is being held in the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation.
The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
