Hilo police arrested a 50-year-old Hilo woman Thursday morning (October 18, 2001) for attempted murder after she allegedly shot her ex-husband.

Police are holding the suspect, identified as Genesis Eleakala Kauhi, of a Baker Street residence, in the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives.

The victim, identified as Gaylon Baldado, 51, was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where he was reported in critical condition and was undergoing surgery for his wounds Thursday morning.

Responding to a 5:14 a.m. call of a shooting incident in the Keaukaha neighborhood, police found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound to his left abdomen area. Rescue personnel treated the victim and took him to the hospital.

Police learned that after being shot, the victim went to a neighbor’s house, told the occupants he was shot and asked them to call an ambulance.
