The Hawai’i Police Department is investigating a reported robbery early Thursday (May 7) in Hilo.

Responding to a 2:24 a.m. call of a possible theft, police responded to a hotel on Banyan Drive. While en route, officers received additional information about an assault at the same location.

Police determined that a 17-year-old boy allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash and attempted to flee on foot. He was restrained by security officers and the victim, a 51-year-old man, who sustained minor injuries from the assault.

The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of robbery. Detectives from the Juvenile Aid Section are continuing the investigation.
