Media Release

Big Island police are investigating a reported home invasion robbery early Wednesday morning (September 15) in Puna.

Responding to a 4:40 a.m. call, Puna patrol officers arrived at a home on Opeapea Street in Kurtistown, where they met with three victims, a 51-year-old woman, a 39-year-old man and a 92-year-old man. The residents described a large dark truck that entered their driveway with two suspects, who exited the vehicle. At least one of the suspects was armed with a rifle.

The 39-year-old man was assaulted while the other two victims hid in the house.

The suspects left with several large marijuana plants. Fire/rescue personnel took the assault victim to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries sustained in the attack and later released.

Detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.
