Big Island police have charged 34-year-old Jarvis Naoki Higa of Hilo with attempted murder for a shooting incident last week in Hilo.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section charged Higa at 5:45 p.m. Monday after locating and arresting him earlier in the day.

He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $375,000 bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Tuesday afternoon (July 24).

At 1:10 a.m. on July 18, police responded to a report of a man threatening a 34-year-old Hilo man with a firearm. Police determined that a round was discharged in the parking lot of a condominium complex on Kalanianaole Avenue in Hilo before the suspect fled the area. The victim was not injured.
