As part of a burglary investigation of artifacts stolen from a South Kohala resort, on September 17, 2007, Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives served two search warrants on a storage facility in Kona, and one search warrant on a residence in Kamuela. During these search warrants, ammunition and 16 artifacts stolen from the resort were recovered. The value of these recovered artifacts were appraised at $60,000.

As a result of this investigation, on October 23, 2007, a Kamuela man was arrested in connection to the theft of artifacts from the resort.

Jay Brewer, M-37, was arrested and charged with Theft 1st Degree and Ownership Prohibited. He is presently being held at the Kona Police Station Cellblock, bail set at $30,000.
