Media Release

Hawaii County police have arrested a 39-year-old Ka’u man who was wanted for allegedly abusing his former girlfriend, a Ka’u resident.

Ka’u Patrol Officers arrested Byron Kahookaulana on Wednesday (October 17) in connection with separate all-points bulletins issued on June 10, 2006, September 13, 2006, and August 25, 2007.

At 4:10 p.m. Thursday (October 18), Kona Juvenile Aid Section Domestic Violence detectives charged Kahookaulana with unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, three counts of abuse of a family/household member and three counts of criminal property damage. The abuse charges are Class C felonies because Kahookaulana has three prior convictions for abuse of a family/household member. The other charges also are felonies.

Kahookaulana was also arrested and charged in connection with separate bench warrants.

He is being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $100,000 bail pending a court appearance.
