MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Ka’u police arrested and charged a 39-year-old man Friday (December 10, 2004) with intimidating witnesses after he had been bailed out of jail for an earlier offense.

The suspect, Gregory A. Driessen, of a Hawaiian Ocean Views Estates address, was arrested at 7:50 a.m. Friday and charged with two counts of intimidating a witness. He is being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Driessen had previously been arrested on November 26, 2004, for discharging a rifle in the HOVE residential area.

At the time, Driessen was charged with reckless endangering, prohibited ownership of a firearm, having no firearm registration and having no permit to acquire a firearm. He was then held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $6,500 bail until he was bailed out on Wednesday (December 8, 2004).

Acting on a search warrant at the time of his previous arrest, officers had recovered a 32-caliber Winchester rifle and ammunition from Driessen’s residence.

An investigation determined that Driessen had a previous conviction, which prohibited him from being in possession of any firearm.
