West Hawaii Criminal Investigations Section detectives arrested Daniel Dejarnette, 53, on Tuesday (November 14, 2006) for the death of his wife, Yu Dejarnette, 56, of Ka’u. He is in custody at the Kona police cellblock.

On Sunday (November 12, 2006), Ka’u patrol officers responded to a report of a woman found on the side of an embankment near her home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision. The victim was found to have sustained severe head injuries. She was transported to Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday. The cause of death was attributed to the victim’s extensive head injuries.

Police have reclassified the incident from a home accident to a murder and are continuing their investigation.
