Ka’u murder update 11-16-06

On November 16, 2006, 8:30 p.m., West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives released Daniel Dejarnette, 53, of Ka’u, after he was arrested on Tuesday (November 14, 2006) for the death of his wife Yu Dejarnette, 56.

On Sunday (November 12, 2006), Ka’u patrol officers responded to the Dejarnette residence in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, in Ka’u, of a reported home accident where Yu Dejarnette was found by her husband lying on a lava embankment near their residence.

Based on a preliminary investigation by patrol officers, detectives were summoned and a more through investigation was conducted.

An autopsy conducted on the victim indicated that the cause of death was due to the extensive head injuries that she sustained.

On Tuesday, November 14, 2006, Daniel Dejarnette was arrested and held pending further investigation.

Upon consulting with the County Prosecutor’s Office, recommendation was that the suspect be released pending further investigation.
