MEDIA RELEASE

The Kona Patrol Division has been experiencing problems with its new telephone system.

Residents calling the Kona police station have been intermittently disconnected or not having their telephone calls answered.

Assistant Chief Ronald Nakamichi, head of the West Hawaii Operations Bureau, said that callers who are unaccountably disconnected or whose calls are unanswered should call back.

“We are aware of the phone system problems, and we are working hard to rectify them,” Nakamichi said. “In the meantime, we ask for the public’s patience while we correct the problem.”

He also reminded callers who want to report an emergency to call the police emergency 9-1-1 number. For non-emergencies, callers should call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
