Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives are investigating the death of a man who apparently had been beaten Sunday (July 8, 2001) at a Kona beach park.

The victim was identified as Alden Pauline, 46, of a Kailua-Kona address.

Police received call at 10:05 p.m. Sunday that a man was lying on the ground at the Kahaluu Beach parking lot. Responding officers called Fire Rescue personnel, who treated the victim for head injuries and took him to the Kona Community Hospital for further treatment.

At 11:32 a.m. Monday, Pauline was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police have reclassified the case from an assault to a murder and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Kona CIS detectives are continuing the investigation.
