Kona worker killed in industrial accident 03-02-04

A 48-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning (March 2, 2004) after he was run over by a ground grader in what was described as an industrial accident.

The victim was identified as Gordon Cagampang, of a Kailua-Kona address.

Responding to an 8:42 a.m. call, South Kohala patrol officers arrived at a Kolea project job site on Waikoloa Beach Road to find that the victim had died at the scene. Officers learned that the victim had been lying on the ground next to a manhole when he was run over by a ground grader and suffered extensive head injuries.

The victim was taken to the Kona Community Hospital.

Police are continuing an investigation into the case, which has been classified as an industrial accident, and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
