Kulani escapee caught, arrested in Puna 09-16-02

MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Puna police arrested a 38-year-old man Monday (September 16, 2002) who had escaped last week from the Kulani Correctional Facility.

Officers arrested the escapee, identified as Gary R. Castro, at 9 a.m. at a residence in Orchid Land Estates subdivision in Puna.

Castro was taken to the Hawaii Community Correctional Center where he is being held without bail on charges of second-degree escape.

He had been reported missing from the Kulani facility at a 9:45 p.m. headcount on Tuesday (September 10, 2002) after guards noticed he was absent.
