Big Island police are investigating an incident early Sunday (July 13) that resulted in the hospitalization of a 34-year-old man.

At 12:12 a.m. Sunday, North Hilo Patrol officers responded to Laupahoehoe Point in response to reports of numerous people involved in an affray. Upon arrival, they located the 34-year old man with lacerations to his head and neck area.

A Hawaii Fire Department helicopter took the victim to Hilo Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition.

Patrol officers located and arrested 27-year-old Jonathan F. Teo of Waikoloa. He is being held in the Hilo cellblock while detectives from the Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation. The case is classified as an attempted murder. 

Police ask any witnesses or anyone with additional information to call Detective Reed Mahuna at 961-2384 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
