Man Beaten in Hilo Robbery 03/22/00

A 36-year-old Keaau man was reported in critical but stable condition in Honolulu after he was beaten during an alleged robbery Wednesday (March 22, 2000) in a Hilo park.

Suffering from a fractured skull and bleeding inside the skull, the victim was flown to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

After responding to a 3:15 p.m. report of a man being assaulted in Kalakaua Park, Hilo patrol officers determined that the victim was punched twice, fell down and hit his head on a cement walkway.

The officers later determined that the assault occurred in connection with a robbery.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Hilo man, was arrested and is being held pending further investigation into the assault and robbery.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Dana Chong Tim of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2276.
