MEDIA RELEASE

Kona police arrested a 25-year-old man Friday (August 24, 2001) on suspicion of murder.

The suspect was identified as John A. Hosek, of Kailua-Kona.

At 1:14 p.m., Kona patrol officers went to a residence on Ililoa Street in the Lai’opua subdivision of Kailua-Kona in response to a request to check on the welfare of an individual who had not shown up for work earlier in the day.

Upon their arrival, the officers discovered the body of a 44-year-old man. A preliminary investigation indicates that foul play may be involved in the victim’s death.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police are holding the suspect and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the victim’s death.

The case has been classified as a murder, and Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing the investigation.
