Marijuana eradication nets 12, 418 plants 08-23-02

Hilo Vice Section officers ripped up a total of 12,418 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to 10 feet during a five-day eradication effort that ended Friday (August 23, 2002).

The eradication effort concentrated in the East Hawaii area, specifically the Puna, Hilo, North Hilo and Hamakua Districts of the Big Island.

The confiscated marijuana was growing in 675 separate plots in the areas covered by the eradication effort.

Last month, Hilo Vice Section officers destroyed a total of 9,283 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to eight feet on 609 separate plots during a five-day eradication effort in East Hawaii that ended on July 19.
