Big >Island> police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man being sought in connection with an attempted robbery.

At about 11 p.m. on >May 5, 2006,> a woman reported that while she was alone just outside her >>Wainaku Street>> apartment, an unknown man approached her from behind, assaulted her and stole jewelry she was wearing.

The woman was injured in the attack and was taken to >>Hilo> >Medical> >Center,>> where she was treated and later released.

The suspect is described as a local male in his mid-thirties, about 5-foot-8 with a large build and a shaved or military-type haircut.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Detective Richard Sherlock at 961-2379 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 961-8300. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
