A Milolii woman is in police custody for allegedly stabbing her husband and threatening to blow up their house.

Kona patrol officers responded Tuesday to a reported stabbing during a domestic argument. A 54-year-old man reported that his wife had stabbed him in the chest during the argument. He said he then got into his vehicle and started to drive away when the woman threw a large rock at the passenger window, shattering it. She then allegedly carried several propane cylinders into the home and opened the valves, threatening to blow up the house.

Bernice Kaupu, 52, was arrested for assault and taken to the Kona police station.

Her husband was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition. He was discharged Thursday morning.

Kona Juvenile Aid Section detectives completed the investigation early Thursday. They charged Kaupu with attempted arson in the second degree, assault in the first degree, terroristic threatening in the first degree and criminal property damage in the fourth degree. Bail was set at $100,000. Kaupu is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending arraignment.
